Billy Bob Thornton gives shoutout to Memphis clothing store: ‘It’s where Elvis used to shop’

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Academy Award–winning actor and musician Billy Bob Thornton is fresh off the season two finale of Paramount+’s hit series Landman, but while promoting the show this week, the Hollywood star made sure to give a heartfelt shoutout to a legendary Memphis business.

Thornton appeared on CBS Mornings to talk about the success of Landman, a gritty drama set in the world of West Texas oil fields. Created by Yellowstone producer Taylor Sheridan, the series has quickly become one of Paramount+’s most-watched shows, with Thornton starring as Tommy Norris, a tough, fast-talking oil executive navigating power, money, and moral gray areas.

During the interview, Thornton discussed working with his castmates, Sheridan’s writing style, and the growing popularity of the show, which has already been renewed for a third season. But the conversation took a turn when the topic shifted to Thornton’s distinctive style…particularly his hats and vintage-inspired wardrobe.

That’s when Memphis entered the spotlight.

Thornton credited much of his look when he’s not on the show to Lansky Brothers Memphis, the iconic clothing store located inside the historic Peabody Hotel. The shop is best known as the longtime clothier to Elvis Presley and a cornerstone of Memphis music and fashion history.

“There’s a store called Lansky’s in Memphis, Tennessee,” Thornton said during the interview. “It’s where Elvis used to shop. They dressed Elvis, Jerry Lee, Little Richard, all of them.”

Founded in 1946, Lansky Brothers has played a pivotal role in shaping the image of some of music’s biggest legends. From Elvis Presley’s early days in Memphis to rock-and-roll royalty like Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard, the store became synonymous with the bold, polished style of the era.

Today, Lansky Brothers continues to attract artists, actors, and visitors from around the world, blending classic Southern fashion with modern flair, all while remaining deeply rooted in Memphis history.
