Peabody Hotel celebrates 155 years by adding Hal Lansky to ‘Duck Hall of Fame’
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Peabody Hotel celebrated its 155th anniversary Wednesday night by adding a great Memphis name to its Peabody “Duck Walk of Fame” on the sidewalk outside the hotel.
Hal Lansky is now the 31st person honored on the Duck Walk for his contributions to the city.
The son of Bernard Lansky, founder of Lansky Brothers, now operates four retail clothing stores inside the Peabody.
The store known as “Clothier to the King” dressed Elvis Presley throughout his amazing career.
But Hal Lansky has memories of serving so many other star customers like Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, B.B. King, Roy Orbison, Isaac Hayes, David Porter, and Al Green, alongside countless Memphians who love the Lanksy style.
“Receiving this award means so much to me,” he said. “We work every day and it’s just unbelievable that I’m being honored doing what I love to do: waiting on customers. I’m really a goodwill ambassador for the hotel in Downtown Memphis. I’ve been doing that for as long as I can remember.”
The Memphis Symphony Orchestra’s 11-piece Big Band performed at the anniversary party, playing for the “March of the Ducks” and the unveiling of a special cake honoring Hal Lansky and the hotel’s 155th anniversary.
